MAGDRL:  PetSmart Waldorf    April 23, 2005

As usual, on the 4th Saturday of the month we were at a favorite PetSmart on this lovely spring day. Linda Maynard's husband Gary and her daughter Anna brought their newly adopted deaf Dane Casper for his Meet & Greet debut. He was GREAT!

Because the weather was so beautiful, it was a slow but steady day at Waldorf PetSmart. We spoke with potential adopters and volunteers, curiosity seekers and dog lovers.

Great Dane Casper (left) was the star of the day! Southern Maryland Meet & Greet Coordinator Linda Maynard just adopted this handsome boy two months prior. Here he stands with Jupiter (middle) and Merlot who wore the donation jacket during the first half of the day (right.)

Beth Allison's Great Dane girl Daphne had an earlier vet appointment, so Beth came out 'Dane-less' to offer a welcome spare set of hands.

Beth adopted Daphne from MAGDRL last year and takes her to this PetSmart for training. Here Beth works her magic with my Dane boy Jupiter while I play photographer.

Casper underwent several corrective surgeries after the Maynard family adopted him, but today he is in great shape.

Although he's deaf, Linda is teaching him a vocabulary of ASL signs and he is very well behaved. Casper spent his former life being tied in a back yard, but the dog we saw was a friendly, happy, lucky boy who has a family who adores him!
