MAGDRL:  4th annual PA Benefit Brunch

On October 14, 2006, our PA MAGDRL team held another successful brunch! This year's guest speaker was Pam Dennison, author of "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Positive Dog Training", "Bringing Light to Shadow," and "Click your way to Rally Obedience."

This year's Brunch was held at the Hotel Bethlehem in Bethlehem's historic district. The hotel was built in 1922 and as you can see, our surroundings were elegant. The audience enjoyed a delicious variety of brunch foods, then settled down to learn from nationally known guest speaker Pamela Dennison.

Pam is a certified behavior consultant with IAABC and a staff writer for the APDT newsletter The Chronicle of the Dog. We were delighted that Pam brought her Border Collie "Beau" to demonstrate how to motivate behavior -- and to entertain us dog lovers!

Pam showed the Turid Rugaas "Calming Signals" video and pointed out various canine postures and their meaning. She talked about ways to deal with leash and fence aggression. She spoke of the benefits of Clicker Training, then took questions from the audience.

At right, she demonstrated TTouch techniques to calm a stressed dog and she demonstrated a technique called "Free Shaping." Pam owns a training school called "Positive Motivation Dog Training" in Blairstown, New Jersey. She also works with Mid-Atlantic Border Collie Rescue, and does Rally-O and competitive obedience with her own dogs.

There was large selection of dog-related items for sale including positive reinforcement training books, SynFlex supplement, training videos, plus collars and leads.

Many generous donors made this year's raffle a big hit! There was an abundance of stuffed gift baskets, dog beds, personal care and home decor baskets, plus doggie item baskets. In addition to the raffle, guests received a folder with an article by Pam, the event program, and Halloween goodie bags.

This year, the PA Brunch was organized by PA volunteers Lynn Kapcsos and Linda Brennan with help from Sheila Marshall and Cathy Johns. Of course, they couldn't have done it without the generosity of our patrons, donors, and volunteers from all over MAGDRL.

In this photo from left to right are MAGDRL president Kathie Shea, guest speaker Pam Dennison, Lynn, and Sheila behind the table. Although it was a long 7 hour round-trip drive for me, it was worth it to hear Pam and to visit with our PA teammates.

KUDOS to PA for another excellent Brunch!!!!!
