MAGDRL: The Big Bad Wolf!  April 30, 2006

MAGDRL was invited to hold a Meet & Greet at The Big Bad Wolf pet store in Takoma Park, DC. It was a beautiful spring Sunday, so we set up our table a block from a busy farmer's market.

Merlot and I set up the table at the corner of busy Carroll Avenue, right on the sidewalk. I put out our day-glo "Great Dane Rescue" signs and we spent the day greeting both human and canine passersby.

It was a lovely day to be outside, especially if it makes a difference for our orphans!  Many visitors took adoption and volunteer information, donated to our orphans, and even dropped off toys for our dogs in kennels! MAGDRL volunteer Jen Lefever also stopped by to donate a crate.

My Dane girl Merlot usually does these events with her roommate Jupiter, but today she was quite a hit all by herself. Although she's a "teacup Dane," people repeatedly remarked that she was huge! I always tell folks how small she is -- except when you see her next to a really small dog. At left she sits with 5 month old Chihuahua puppy who was not at all intimidated by Merlot towering over him. Merlot has feet bigger than this pup!

The Big Bad Wolf's owner is a MAGDRL member who is also active with the Washington Animal Rescue League. This store is absolutely delightful, featuring grooming, premium foods, and Dane-sized beds and toys. They also feature seminars on animal health, acupuncture, and wellness plus herbal therapies, pet communication and therapeutic canine massage. It's worth a visit if you're in the area!
